It is more than Anti-Hopping Law Amendment in DAP

Image
It is more than Anti-Hopping Law Amendment in DAP By Stephen Ng   There is more than meets the eye when one reads the explanation given by both DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng and secretary-general Anthony Loke .               These are two DAP men whom I have always thought to be credible but, unfortunately, I find their explanation recently about the Anti-Hopping Law to the public is anything but truthful.               To put it nicely, it is more like half-truths and smokescreens that they are putting out to the public. And, when told a few times, the public will begin to believe them. The Quotes               Allow me to quote Lim from an article in the Malay Mail: “"This is not about the party members, but about the elected representatives, especially those who...

SILENCING THE VOICE OF DISSENTERS: Exposing the strategy of alienating individuals

Image
I see a trend these days in Malaysia that tries to alienate individuals.           Instead of solving issues , they are more interested  to push their own agenda. They cannot tolerate voices of dissent, because  their personal agenda is at stake.           So, rakyat must be fully aware of the power of one voice. Their strategy is to alienate and smear the reputation of the individual so that people are afraid to associate with them.  Good People Are Individual Voices          Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther the Reformer, and many more all began with just one individual. Their voices were soon heard.           I remember years ago, Dr Tan Chee Khoon used to be the lone voice. Known as the Mr Opposition, he was respected by even the then prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman himself.     ...

The Fate of the Corrupt

Image
Chief Grand Councillor Heshen This is based on my assignment, as a partial fulfilment of my doctoral studies:  Emperor Qianlong’s (1736–1795) biggest mistake was to allow too much power in the hand Heshen (1746–1799), one of the most corrupt officials during the Qing Dynasty who, coupled with his autocratic style of ruling China, caused the end of the Qing Dynasty’s golden era. He was later sentenced to death by slow slicing ( lingchi ) by Qianlong’s successor, the Jiaqing Emperor, Renzong but subsequently allowed to commit suicide himself. [1] Renzong also executed both Hu Weiyong, Lan Yu and some 4000 of their relatives for the alleged conspiracy by the two to usurp the throne, and most of the ministers of the Six Ministry for corruption of Guo Huan. The collapse of the Qing Dynasty is, however, not because it did not have a good system of government. Renzong’s mistake was when he also executed particular officials who were bold enough to criticise the emperor. This destroyed...

Why every vote is important?

Image
At the federal level, every vote is still important.            Although I have mentioned that I may cast a spoilt vote for Selangor, depending on who are the candidates in my parliamentary and state constituencies, at the federal level, every vote counts.           It now depends on how the Malay and East Malaysian votes will swing, especially after they have seen how Barisan Nasional for over five decades fail to improve their livelihood. They have also seen how the Penang State Government has run the island state that it is easy to see the transformation in the state if you had been there 10 and five years ago, and recently.          Whereas Selangor has turned from bad to worse under Pakatan Harapan in the past one or two terms, Penang is a 'miracle' by itself that even Penang people are proud to now tell people it was the state government now under DAP (previously, also under a Chinese ba...

My Take: Umno and BN likely to lose the coming General Election

Image
By Stephen Ng           Frankly, if the General Election is held this year, Umno and its Barisan Nasional component parties are likely to perform badly.           Barely one year after the Covid-19 pandemic, the country is still reeling from its standstill economy between 2020 and 2021. People's tongues are still wagging that should BN win the general election and become the government, former prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor, and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be set free among others.          The Najib-Rosmah duo together with flamboyant playboy Jho Low had caused billions of Ringgit to disappear from the public coffers, leaving the nation still in huge debts -- to be precise, in the quantum of  RM32.08 billion as at June 30, 2022. This makes the 1MDB scandal the mother of scandals and as the US Department of Justice put it, 'unprecedented.'    ...

Cara Gaya Saya Selama Ini

Image

Are we learning from history?

Image
Quote from a book Zhang, Qizhi.  An Introduction to to Chinese History and Culture.  New York, NY: Springer Heidelberg, 2015.         In politics, the highly centralized and autocratic monarchical system fomented serious corruption. From the perspective of Chinese history, this political system played an active role in making China a unified multinational country and in promoting social productivity, yet as time passed, its drawbacks became more evident.          The Qing emperors inherited the political system of the Ming Dynasty and developed it to its peak. The Qing emperors were at the center of this system, and they were surrounded, at both central and local levels, by a large number of fully functional and closely linked bureaucratic groups, whose job was to safeguard the emperor’s authority and autocracy by managing people’s discontents and crushing any insurgence and revolt.     ...
