Mindblowing how PMX can release Najib and Rosmah?
AT A TIME when I am trying to give some time end of the year to help a charitable organisation down south to promote their cafe that it has set up six months ago and not meeting their objective of making sufficient profit to sustain its eleven homes, I am overwhelmed with questions from people, "What do you think of the recent acquittals?"
I feel sad for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PMX) as he tried to campaign against corruption since the late 1990s; and we are seeing the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) now on the third gear moving to the fourth gear, yet the reformasi that we need to see in Malaysia is the reformasi within each of us.
Reform Us from Within, O God
Many have benefited from a corrupt culture that Malaysia is known for in this part of the world. Cartels and politicians work in collaboration to plunder the nation's wealth, as a result of which we still have many in the B40 who have not been assisted despite the New Economic Policy (NEP) still in place after so many decades.
The NEP, instead of building a more successful business entrepreneurs who can work together with other Malaysians, has churned up many failed businesses which we all know about.
Yet, we are so polarised as a nation. We look at each other as "You, me, different" without realising that skin colour is just a matter of the melanin concentration on the skin. Why can't we work together for a better Malaysia, and move on as a corruption-free nation?
Frankly, this nation will be better off if corruption money dries up, and people are willing to work twice harder to become rich. Business people will thrive even more when competition is on level ground.
My network of people in the corridors of power is so wide, yet I work so hard every day, live a thrifty and prudent lifestyle, because my wife and I have heavy commitments in a few years ahead. I see many others who are far ahead of me financially because they know how to leverage on others.
My Answers?
Q1: What is your take on the recent acquittals involving the former Prime Minister and his wife?
Ans: While the world knew about the 1MDB scandal, and most of us also voted against Barisan Nasional because we did not want to have the couple on the pedestal, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have a differnet reason to outst Najib Razak.
Therefore, I am not surprised that he is working from behind the scene or money is now splashed all over the places to hire cybertroopers to topple PMX.
My response to a friend of mine is very simple: "Who appointed these judges? PMX? If not, is it the chief justice? And, if yes, who appointed the chief justice? PMX?"
I think most of you know when the honourable judges were appointed. I do not bother to even check, but I do not think Anwar is involved in their appointment. But just to show you these days it is easy to check on almost anything, I asked Chat GPT to give me a quick answer. Here is what it says.
PMX only took over the helm about two years ago in Nov 2022, and we are already giving him so much "credit" for manipulating the entrie system: appointing the Right Honourable Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, and perhaps, Tun Maimun then appointed the judges who presided in both Rosmah and Najib's cases.
Wow, the theory is mindblowing beyond imagination! Perhaps, PMX instructed Tun Maimun to instruct the judges to free Najib and Rosmah.
And, if tomorrow Tun Maimun retires, she would have to be replaced by someone appointed by the Agong based on the advice of PMX. And, if more such cases go scots-free, well you know what the cybertroopers will throw into the social media platform, knowing that you are ready to believe everything.
Ignorance
This shows how much we do not understand the way how our three branches of government, as well as the three tiers of government (federal, state and local governments) operate.
Even as a writer, there is a lot that I do not understand myself and still learning, I can imagine the amount of ignorance that is out there.
There are three branches of government -- Executive (which includes PMX and his cabinet and the entire government machinery), the Parliament (comprising of the elected people's representatives called Members of Parliament) and Judiciary.
This is the British system, which clearly separates the powers of the Executive and the Judiciary. While the Prime Minister can advise the Seri Paduka Yang DiPertuan Agong (YDPA) on the appointment of the Chief Justice of Malaysia, he has no control over how the appointee behaves.
So, please do not ask me if a new chief justice appointed by PMX behaves in a manner that may even frustrates him with whatever decision he or she makes. If we are talking about a cabinet minister, PMX can still advise him or her privately, but once on the seat of chief justice, PMX cannot even remove chief justice, except with the consent of His Majesty the King of Malaysia.
Even the police can be frustrated after arresting a big time criminal, and the deputy prosecutor or the investigating officers, for some reasons, choose not to present the case properly in court. Who gets the blame, the judge who makes his or her decision based on facts presented in court by both sides, or ....
To think that PMX instructed the acquittal of Rosmah and Anwar, you need more faith to believe that! I don't, because it was Najib who put Anwar behind bars for another five years, no? Don't ask me, but based on all your rationale, it must be Najib's work, since Anwar was the Mr Opposition and Najib was the prime minister.
To me, I do not think PMX is vengeful. The former Inspector-General of Police who bashed him up appears to be quiet. It is only when Dr Mahathir started attacking him that he decided to go for both nonageneraians, one who has to now face a higher Judge. He can defend himself.
Q2. What about the appointment of (now) Tun Musa Aman?
Ans: Anwar is again given the "credit" for the appointment of his nemesis?
Well, go to the state constitution and read Article 1 (1) of the Sabah State Constitution for yourself. Can't find it? Google it lah.
Meanwhile, please do not kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs. Anwar's international visits are important to put Malaysia on world map, to attract tourists and foreign investments, but if we continue to help spread rumours, we are to blame if we descend into a worse state.
Do not be surprised that when you wake up tomorrow morning, you may see the country run by the people you choose to distance yourself from. There will always be extremists trying to seize the powers by force, and they can only do it when there is instability in the country -- caused by you and me.
