A wake-up call for the DAP

Image
News has just come in that DAP has been wiped out in the Sabah state election, failing to retain all of its seats.  The setback is reminiscent of 2008, when MCA suffered heavy losses. This should serve as a wake-up call for a party that once proudly pitched itself as “by the people, for the people.”  With two years left before the next federal election, DAP must urgently reconnect with ordinary Malaysians. This is not about Anthony Loke’s recent backtracking on the ban against overloaded lorries—a policy most fair-minded Malaysians support, given the accidents these vehicles cause. Rather, it is about Loke’s aloofness on issues closer to home. I just share from my personal experience as examples what others told me. On several occasions, I have conveyed to him—through people close to him—that a retired couple in his Seremban constituency, who spent their lives running a drug rehabilitation centre, are struggling. Yet, unlike Dr Wan Azizah who once assigned her special ...

From Sheraton Move to SARA: Malaysia’s Political Crossroads

Image
The Malay proverb, “ Setitik nila rosakkan sebelanga susu ” — “A drop of indigo (dye) spoils a whole pot of milk” — reminds us how a single flaw can overshadow an entire legacy.  In many ways, this applies to all our leaders: from Tunku Abdul Rahman, Abdul Razak Hussein, Hussein Onn, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Najib Abdul Razak, Muhyiddin Yasin, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and now the nation’s tenth prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim. Yet, let’s be honest: which human being is perfect? None of us. Just this morning, I listened to former Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli’s explanation about the infamous Albert Tei and the Sabah scandal. It confirmed suspicions I have had, but only now do I fully understand the depth of what was happening. Role of Economy Minister Even Rafizi is not without flaws. While I hope that one day he may rise to become a capable prime minister, the reality is that he has stumbled before, stepping away from his reform initiatives on two occasions. ...

If not, please use it. It's just another one-and-a-half month left, and before you realise it, the money credited into from your identification card (IC) will be gone by December 31, 2025.  Don't wait till the last minute before you start shopping for your groceries. The queue will be so long that you may take an hour to just make your payment.  Go to the supermarket or shops that accept SARA hidup.  The government needs you to spend the money. This will help prime up th...

Where Are the Amri–Raymond Koh Cases Headed?

Image
While reports have confirmed that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) intends to appeal the High Court’s judgment concerning Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh, this morning—as I pen these lines—Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is receiving his first official briefing from the Royal Malaysian Police on the same case. Saifuddin has been busy with the Sabah state election, which will happen on November 29, 2025.  (Before you read on, it's important to recognise a widespread misunderstanding—especially among netizens—regarding the crucial distinction between intervention and interference .  (Whatever the case, cybertroopers will seize upon the confusion—amplifying doubt and suspicion about the Madani government's intentions, regardless of how sincere or constructive they may be. Their ultimate aim is clear: to topple Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, especially now that he is actively pursuing the illicit wealth amassed by certain politicians in the past). Tw...

Was there a LRT fire at Masjid Jamek station recently?

Image
Was there a real fire involving a LET train at Masjid Jamek recently?  Search the news today. Nothing. Ask the authorities, but you don’t have access. If you do, just alert them that someone is up to some mischief. Next, download Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT and ask was there a fire involving a LRT train at Masjid Jamek station recently.  Lo and behold, the answer is in just within a few seconds!  There was a small fire at the Masjid Jamek LRT station, but it did not involve the train itself. The incident was confined to the station’s drain area and was quickly extinguished. --- 🔍 What Happened at Masjid Jamek LRT Station • On 3 August 2024, smoke was seen rising from the underground section of the Masjid Jamek LRT station in Kuala Lumpur. • Rapid KL confirmed that the fire occurred in the drain area of the station, not on the train or tracks. • The fire was minor and swiftly put out by the operations team. • Train services were not disrupted and continued as usual Malay...

Making sense of the recent saga involving Nga and some powerful media warlords

Image
For me to write this piece, it would be a great risk of even having my bread and butter affected given that powerful local media warlords are involved. If these media gatekeepers insist that the public must be free to express their views, then I trust they will extend that same courtesy to mine. I find it timely to reflect on the recent exchange between a journalist and Madani government minister, Nga Kor Ming. After all, if my perspective is met with disdain, it would suggest a troubling contradiction—where those who champion free expression are, in practice, dismissing it, not forgetting that they are also in their sunset years, a fact that they cannot deny.  Understanding the true saga While I must acknowledge that Nga can come across as rather abrasive—not just with media personnel, but also with ordinary Malaysians like myself. I experienced this firsthand when I brought along a woman, Vimala, who had quite a practical solution to the monkey issue.  For me, a warm...

How I read the recent news of Trump’s inaugural visit to Malaysia following his visit to Japan and Busan, South Korea

Image
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1AgNf2QSF8/?mibextid=wwXIfr Is US President Donald Trump ’s strategy beginning to take clearer form? His recent trip to the East not only elevated Malaysia ’s international standing, but also opened new avenues for strategic cooperation with  Japan   and  China . Besides Malaysia, Trump’s visit to Japan has also further strengthened US–Japan relations. The current Prime Minister, Tanae Sagaichi , is widely regarded as a protégé of Trump’s late golfing companion, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe , who was tragically assassinated in 2022. In China, both Trump and the Chinese president Xi Jinping struck a deal which has at least eased the tension that avert further trade wars between the two giants: https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025/10/30/trump-says-xi-agreed-to-one-year-trade-deal-after-amazing-talks https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/27/business/us-china-trade-talk-malaysia-intl-hnk My Observations  As an observer, I ...
