Nothing to celebrate, it's upholding of justice which is paramount in Malaysia

Najib Abdul Razak’s final appeal at the apex court has caused a frenzy of sorts in the social media.

People are making fun, celebrating and dancing over the decision made by the five federal judges to stop Najib’s team of lawyers from dragging the case for another few more months.

Someone came out with a new song about ‘Bosku, apa malu’ which I think is kind of creative and comical. Others find their disgust expressed in more pictorial forms, depicting how Najib and his lawyers have delayed the court process.

I particularly like one which said, “Doctor, remember the ICU room I cancelled yesterday? I want it back again. My lawyers will advise you when I’ll be sick and to be admitted.”

Foretold

This has not come as a big surprise to me since a few months ago, I was given some insights into our current batch of federal judges. When I shared this piece of insight with my friends on the social media, including some personal friends, no one believed me.

According to my friend who used to be a magistrate, the evidences against Najib is overwhelming. Najib will be in jail very soon. That was told to me some time in the first quarter this year.

She added that she knows these federal judges and (my paraphrase follows hereafter) they are not those who would budge a single inch by bending the rule of law just because it involves a former prime minister. In short, they could not be bought with money.

So, Najib should know that cash is not king all the time. And, if rakyat is king, we want him to pay for all his wrongdoings over the years. Not even the slightest concession should be accorded to a criminal, as I am not sure whether after 12 years’ term (or extended longer) would make a difference to this recalcitrant former leader.

Now, my friends see it! And they are applauding the judges for their firmness in applying the laws to the disgraced former prime minister. Therefore, Najib’s supporters can chant, ‘Bosku, apa malu!’ but let him squat at Sungai Buloh Prison for a minimum of eight years for all that he had done to destroy this nation.

If his supporters create problem, they may have to face the consequences, but I wonder if they themselves have to face the judges, would Najib also go to the streets to protest? Politicians from both divides are good at feigning their fight for justice.

We have had enough of Najib’s antics and polemics. I think most people would agree with me that the moment we hear ‘Bosku, apa malu’ we feel like vomiting. It badly affects Umno’s own survivability in Malaysian politics. And this is not healthy for a democratic nation like ours.

Royal Pardon?

Although anything can happen here in Malaysia, my answer to most people is simple. It is unlikely that Najib will get a royal pardon, considering that both High and Appeals Courts have already found him guilty.

The Agong would risk being seen as biased towards a very important person who has already been labelled as the Malaysian Official No 1, Pirate of the Caribbean, and all sorts of names. Even when the present Agong invited Najib for a meal together, he also received brickbats from the rakyat who feel that the king should associate himself especially someone who is already twice convicted.

I am very sure that the Agong would be very wise to stay away from what the court has decided, given that the Federal Court does not overturn the decisions by the two other courts.

At the end of the day, the Agong has to be seen as upholding justice, and no one is spared of the long arm of the law, regardless of whether they are prime ministers or cabinet ministers, whether from Pakatan Harapan or Barisan Nasional.

And although I do not rejoice over Najib’s imminent fate, I think we cannot afford to allow one man to drive the whole country nuts. Already we have seen how the country’s reputation has gone down the drain over the period in which Najib was in power.

From here, you can gauge the people's sentiments with the `Bosku, Apa Malu' campaign. It is like Muhyiddin Yassin's 'Abah' campaign that left Abah out in the cold.

When people complained about Rosmah's diamond ring, she merely said she saved enough money from young to buy the diamond ring. She thinks that the rakyat is stupid! Now, people are making fun of the couple. Whatever a man (or woman) sows, that he shall also reap!

Please read for yourself Tengku Maimun and the Federal Judges' firm decision against any further delay in the course of justice. Jibbi should know that he is not indispensable, and he is subject to the Law like anyone else.
