Ke Arah Penyelesaian Berhemah: Mengiktiraf Peranan Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh dalam Isu Subsidi NGO Kebajikan

Image

About Zero Complaints: A good example set by Dato' Zahri Samingon, MBPJ mayor

Image
I am deeply impressed by the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Dato’ Zahri Samingon. In a brief discussion with him over WhatsApp, I shared my concern that there is likely to be significant traffic congestion at the junction of Jalan 16/11 and Jalan 17/1 in the coming months. I had recently learned that another large church congregation will be relocating to the same area in July, which would almost certainly add pressure to an already busy junction. During our exchange, I offered several suggestions and explained a concept that I believe he already understands well: Zero Complaints. This was a principle we were trained in under Philip Crosby’s Excellence Through Quality (EQ) system. The idea of Zero Complaints is simple yet powerful—it simply means being proactive: anticipating problems and resolving them before they escalate into public issues. Too often, problems involving local authorities become visible only after they have affected the public, forcing civil servants into reactive “firefigh...

Cadangan Inisiatif Strategik Kawalan Keselamatan dan Penjimatan Bahan Api PDRM melalui Pendekatan Kepolisan Setempat

Image

Differentiating Person of Interest from A Suspect and A Witness

Image
Many have been asking me for my view about James Chai's case. I am not an expert of law, but based on my reading, I will just share my thoughts here with you. Be it the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) conducting an investigation, people are called in to provide a statement. There are three categories -- Person of Interest , A Witness and a Suspect . In the case of James Chai, who is abroad in the United Kingdom, he is a person of interest in the RM1.1 billion contract approved hastily before former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli stepped down. Technically, there is nothing to worry about for Chai, as he is not a suspecct.  The Malaysian Anti‑Corruption Commission (MACC) is well within its powers to call him in to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged “rumours” that Rafizi Ramli had hastily approved a RM1.1 billion contract before he left office. When there are allegations that it was approved hastily, after someone has lod...

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone

In recent weeks, a number of issues have surfaced which, to me, appear to be mere attempts to discredit—if not topple—the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Even from within his coalition, chaos has begun to spin new narratives, as though the country is hearing for the first time about so-called corporate mafias. Like goats led around a bonfire, many seem to chant the same mantra blindly , each with their own motives. Few are willing to swim against the tide, but I am prepared to stand for what I believe must be said, even if it renders me unpopular among politicians and friends.  While I do not disagree with a Royal Commision of Inquiry to be set up to investigate the corporate mafia, what I am saying is that we all know they have always existed not only in Malaysia, but also in the Western countries; therefore, there is no necessity to hype up the issue of corpoate mafias as if it is something new, or only exists in Malaysia now during Azam Baki's tenure as Chief of the Ma...

Proof of the reforms is in the pie: many like Soliman can testify but prefer not to

Image
After posting every article that carried coverage of the journey taken by Soliman Wan, who shared his story during our press conference yesterday, I received feedback from a good Malay friend of mine in Penang. At the very least, he was willing to acknowledge that the Madani government is seeking to rectify longstanding issues, including the plight of the stateless.  Some sources put it that the number of known cases of stateless people have been reduced from a total of about 50,000, to around 4,000.  Not many people are aware that citizenship matters require the consent of the Conference of Malay Rulers before the present government can act. We should therefore be grateful to the Conference of Rulers for granting Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a hearing, and I believe, the consent to pursue solutions for thousands of cases was subsequently given. My comments, shared alongside the links to some of the articles and...
