This is the kind of reform we are looking for

IT is truly heartening to see more recreational parks are now being developed for the people. This is something that people have always hoped for, especially having lived in Kepong nearly all my life.

Besides these two Members of Parliament Lim Lip Eng and Hannah Yeoh, the credit should also go to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Meng and Youth and Sports Minister, Yeoh herself.

Talk to your MP

According to the article, there are various other grants from "the Prime Minister’s Department’s Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), Housing and Local Government Ministry as well as Youth and Sports Ministry to enhance recreational facilities in the area."

Now, it is up to your local Member of Parliament to utilise all the funding that is available. It is this kind of facilities that will truly benefit the people.

Indirectly, it will also benefit those who are in the industry of building recreational facilities; in short, those in the Top15 income group in the supply chain will reap the harvests. Who say that the Madani government is only focusing on the B40 group?

Different Approach

I have written before that any "benefits" given to the B40 will eventually find its way up the ladder to reach the T15 group. Cash amount of RM100 for every adult, for example, will drive the country's GDP.

The more cycles that the money spins, the more taxes the government will earn doing it the bottom-up approach.

To me, this is a better way to prop up the country's economy unlike during Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's fourth prime minister who believes in top-down approach: give big projects to certain individuals, hoping it will trickle down to the ordinary people.

Full Benefits Take Time

Look at my housing estate. Our dilipidated has been developed into a park that we can be proud of as residents. I see a football field in Taman Ehsan is also being transformed.

    Expect More Reforms

It is also heartening to hear that our Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is chairing the cabinet committee on Local Government (Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan, or PBT).

Read my article, "Reform Local Government if we want to become First World Nation. Those who have been critical about Anwar or the Madani government should make an effort to share their views on how to improve the performance of the municipal and city councils.

Unfortunately, many do not even bother to lend a helping hand on how we can improve the third-tier of government. Perhaps, it is time for a chance in our own attitude, quoting former US president John F. Kennedy, "Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You, Ask What You Can Do for Your Country."
