ETS yourself to Segamat

As usual I encourage people to use public transport but before buying the tickets make sure you click on the check box “I am travelling myself” to verify you are a senior citizen in order to get senior citizen discounts. This is the weakness in their User Interface which should carry this statement instead: “ I am a senior citizen, entitled to senior citizen Discount of 50%; allowing someone else who is not a senior citizen to use this ticket is therefore prohibited.” Read this and understand further before you make the payment so that you don’t have to go through the hassles of having to go through the same experience I went through:

Why drive when you can ETS your way to Segamat? I am a frequent traveller on KTM’s electric train service (ETS) from Kuala Lumpur to Sg Buloh, and not only are the facilities good but as a senior citizen, the fares are discounted by 50%. Per trip, it is only RM26 (gold coaches) to RM33 (platinum coaches).
platinum coaches cost slightly higher

Gold coaches cost slightly lower

Platinum coaches would cost a little bit more, but it comes with power points and chargers for your devices.

Charger and power pints are provided for each passenger

The seats come with foldable tables similar to the aircrafts where you can put your devices.

Each seat comes with a foldable table

This makes riding on the ETS more relaxing instead of having to put all your attention to drive on the highway to your destination. Besides petrol, the wear-and-tear of car parts and toll, the risks are higher when you are on the long distance drive. Therefore, if you are planning a trip to Segamat, it makes more sense to ETS there.

The trip takes only three hours, which is about the same time most people would take if they are driving. In fact, time passes by so quickly if you take a short nap, or do some work on the train. Some people prefer to kill time watching a movie online as there is free Internet and a power socket on the Platinum coaches to allow you to charge your devices.

Each seat comes with a small foldable table for you to put your laptop, or like what I do is to type using a foldable keyboard bought from DIY using my phone as the platform. I made the most of the trip by cranking out a feature on the Cars and Coffee cafe at Empire City at Damansara Perdana.

For those who think they do not have time to do reading, it’s probably a good time to catch up with some reading during the trip on ETS.

Once I reach Segamat station, my friend would usually pick me up from the Segamat station, which is just around the block from his place. The usual stopover for lunch or dinner is at Kasih Segamat’s Minus 11 Degree C Cafe in Sekijang.

How to book your tickets

It is really easy. You don’t need to drive to the train station to buy your tickets anymore. It’s just an evening stroll on your index and middle fingers after you have downloaded KITS Style on your phone from Google play or App Store.

Here are the steps:

1. Register an account which includes your IC number.
2. If you are above 60, you are automatically identified as a senior citizens with 50 percent discount on all your tickets.
3. However, those who are your dependents will be charged the full price.
4. Click on ETS/ Intercity.

 5. On the page KTM/Intercity, fill in the blanks. Select the station you eudh to embark on and for Segamat, choose Segamat for the Destination. Then choose the date and time you will be travelling. Make sure you select those stationed word the small letters ETS appearing on the right side. Start with the nearest KTM station for the departure.

6. Click Search once you are satisfied the information is accurate. This will appear

7. If you want more options to choose from, you may have to select a bigger KTM station.

8. Now, you can choose one of the options. If you still think these times on their schedule do not fit you, you will have to do the above again and choose a Forrest departure station.

9. But if you are fine with one or the times given, just click on your child’s. You will now get to select the coach and seat number to book your ticket.

In this case you can click on the coach A seat 4D.

10. Do the same for the return ticket. Make sure you make sure you don’t keep changing your mind because the KITS Style App is not that user-friendly. Which is change of decision with regards to the receipt you will have to repeat some of the steps above again the select the train station, the date of departure, and the date of return.

11. If Coach A is fully occupied, Click on B, C, D or E or F. You are not allowed to select the wheelchair, bound seats, if you are able body person. Unfortunately, in this train, there are no more seats available.

12. Therefore, you have to go through the same selection process again, and choose the seats and coach for the departure train and Returning train.

13. It can be quite disappointing because the two seats available are all seats for the disabled.

14. In this instance, I have to choose a different departure station and change the date of returning from Segamat to a bigger station. After selecting the seats, click ok and fill the blanks.

15. The page showing up will tell you how much you have to pay. If you are a senior citizen, automatically your fares will be half the price.

16. You can either pay using e-banking or your credit cards. KTM e-wallet is also possible but you need to transfer money in there first.

17. Once payment is done, you will get the e-tickets via your email. Save it on your phone. Use the QR code when you scan it on autogate at the train station. Make sure you are at least half an hour early. Better early that regret the teak has left you. They won’t bring back the train just for you. All you can do is just to sing, Five Hundred Miles.

18. If you encounter any difficulties with the app, call this number: 03 97791200.

A friend who read this page responded : “ Only 3 weeks ago I made a day trip to Penang. Last week an overnight trip. So Segamat with ets for a day trip is very much possible.”

It is a comfortable ride…click to view the TikTok

My heart will go on

It must be at least twenty years ago when I first encountered Malaysia’s very own Stevie Wonder, Colin Ng Soon Beng. It was during Chinese New Year, at the home of a mutual friend. Colin was only about ten years old then. His mother introduced him to me as a “special child.” She said, “Pick a song. We’ll play it for Colin to listen, and he will play it back for you.” I chose My Heart Will Go On from Titanic. To this day, Colin still remembers that it was the song he played for me. Born with multiple disabilities, Colin’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Being visually impaired, he could not learn music the way most children do. Yet God blessed him with an extraordinary gift: a razor-sharp ear. He could identify the brand of a photocopier or the model of a car simply by hearing its sound. His mother, Janet, devoted her life to nurturing his talent. After losing her husband when Colin was 24, she became not only a mother but also a father figure, chauffeur, and companion in ...

DALAM EMPAT BAHASA/ IN FOUR LANGUAGES/在四种语言中/ நான்கு மொழிகளில்: A Piece of Good News Worth Celebratinng
