MPS’ work ethics have not changed despite matter raised by Sultan of Selangor over a year ago

As an independent activist who steps in to bring relief to the people whenever time permits, I often wonder what it takes to get basic municipal services running properly. It has been over a year since the royal decree by HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and public welfare, yet the reality on the ground in Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) tells a deeply frustrating story.

Despite numerous reports, photographic evidence, and official group chats involving the YDP, councilors, and elected representatives, blocked drains, accumulated rubbish, and stagnant water continue to plague our neighborhoods—such as the persistent blockages around Han’s Kopitiam and Restoran Sabiq. When inaction persists despite clear evidence and royal reminders, it is hardly surprising that the media uses terms like "lackadaisical" to describe the response to Selangor residents' everyday struggles.

Here is the direct message and documentation that was shared with the YDP, Ir Shaiful, YB Gobind, and local council members—highlighting evidence contributed by Mr. Jackson and Mr. Han (of Han's Kopitiam):

(YDP, floods are still happening, drains are still clogged, rubbish and blockages are still visible in the drains, it has been over a year since the decree of Tuanku Sultan Sharafuddin, and all these pictures have already been submitted here. Although all the authority to address this issue is in the hands of the YDP, there is still no sign of any cleaning work orders being issued.

(This is one of the reasons why the media uses the word "lackadaisical" regarding the problems faced by the people of Selangor, especially in the area under the YDP's care. This is why, even a year after Tuanku’s royal letter was issued, the way MPS addresses residents' problems has not changed at all. With the previous Mayor, the moment I brought ground feedback to him, he understood the issue immediately, and I didn't even need to remind him.)

At least the council member appointed by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Puan Siti, responded immediately:

“Morning.. sy dh mohon KDEB dan JPSPK bersihkan pasir² dan sampah² sisi dan dlm longkang dgn segera. Nnt mereka bg laporan sy kongsikan.”

(“Morning.. I have requested KDEB and JPSPK to clean up the sand and rubbish on the sides and inside the drains immediately. Once they provide a report, I will share it.”

Moving Forward

Accountability shouldn't require relentless blogging or public outcries just to clear blocked drains and prevent recurring floods. As an independent activist advocating for the community, I believe local residents deserve proactive leadership that acts swiftly on ground realities, rather than waiting for endless reminders.

Drain clogged and not flowing

Drain clogged and not flowing

Question must be asked why this part of the drain is almost dry, but the other sections are all clogged?

Question must be asked why this part of the drain is almost dry, but the other sections are all clogged?

Without the kerbs, it is easy for the soil to enter into the drain and cause sedimentation

STATE OF NEGLECT: Even a plant grows underneath the drain…

My heart will go on

It must be at least twenty years ago when I first encountered Malaysia’s very own Stevie Wonder, Colin Ng Soon Beng. It was during Chinese New Year, at the home of a mutual friend. Colin was only about ten years old then. His mother introduced him to me as a “special child.” She said, “Pick a song. We’ll play it for Colin to listen, and he will play it back for you.” I chose My Heart Will Go On from Titanic. To this day, Colin still remembers that it was the song he played for me. Born with multiple disabilities, Colin’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Being visually impaired, he could not learn music the way most children do. Yet God blessed him with an extraordinary gift: a razor-sharp ear. He could identify the brand of a photocopier or the model of a car simply by hearing its sound. His mother, Janet, devoted her life to nurturing his talent. After losing her husband when Colin was 24, she became not only a mother but also a father figure, chauffeur, and companion in ...

DALAM EMPAT BAHASA/ IN FOUR LANGUAGES/在四种语言中/ நான்கு மொழிகளில்: A Piece of Good News Worth Celebratinng
